This wine is dedicated to the banking executives who refused to loan winemaker Gonzalo the funds needed to get it off the ground; the money was found anyway and the result is an outstanding bottle of Rioja. Gonzalo Gonzalo (the best name in the wine industry, possibly ever?) grew up on his farm, studied wine making and then travelled the wine world. He returned home a devoted eco warrior, not least because his father became seriously ill and subsequently died due to years of exposure to the agro-chemicals liberally used in the 1970’s. His farming is in stark contrast to that of the previous generation and along biodynamic lines with everything done by hand. He works with two helpers and now farms 4.5 hectares in the Rioja Alta sub zone. They take natural wine to the next level, following the lunar cycle in vineyard and the winery. In the end Gran Cerdo is all about the purest expression of fruit with whole bunch fermentation, no filtration, no stabilization and minimal sulphur
